Ball is rolling on ‘Dark Tower’ adaptation
Ron Howard’s gigantic Dark Tower project seems to have found its lead, and it now appears the ball will really start rolling the adaptation of Stephen King’s fantasy epic. Oscar-winner Javier Bardem beat out other candidates such as Viggo Mortensen and has been offered the roll of the gunslinger.
The project is enormous in scope, with two planned feature films and a 6-part miniseries to possibly be aired on the SyFy channel (would be their biggest pick-up ever). I can’t remember such an expansive literary project being tackled like this in an adaptation. Universal has greenlit the funding and now Howard can finally begin making the thing, or things, or whatever it’s going to be. I wouldn’t expect it anytime before late 2012.
